The Bible does give us some guidance on dealing with people who don’t want to listen or engage with us. One verse that comes to mind is found in the New Testament, in the book of Matthew 7:6. In this verse, Jesus says, “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet and turn and tear you to pieces.”
Now, let me break that down for you in simpler terms. Jesus is telling us to be careful with our words and our precious teachings. Sometimes, when we try to share our beliefs or wisdom with people who are not interested or even hostile, it can be like giving something valuable to dogs or pigs, who won’t appreciate it. Instead, they might turn on you and become aggressive.
So, what can we learn from this? Well, the Bible suggests that in some cases, it might be best to walk away from a situation where the other person is not willing to listen or is being disrespectful. This doesn’t mean we should be rude or unkind, but rather, we should use our judgment and discernment when deciding how to engage with others.
Remember, the Bible also teaches us about patience, love, and forgiveness, so we should always try to approach situations with a kind and understanding heart. But if someone is outright hostile or unwilling to listen, it’s okay to take a step back and protect yourself from harm, just as Jesus advised.
